In honor of those who served, warrants a certain responsibility of those who didn't. A responsibility to maintain the freedoms granted to us by our forefathers.
While being of an age group who never had to engage a foreign enemy, I have strived to maintain my freedom in honor of those who did. On a visit to the Moving Wall this Memorial Day weekend, I am reminded that I could never know what the veterans gave when they fought for our freedom.
As I spoke with the veterans and read the names, I am reminded of the look in my fathers eyes as he told me "there were a lot of great men left over there." Memories of my childhood when I would watch the news to see if my dad was okay. Though I will never meet them I pay tribute to the men and women who helped bring my father home. They will not be forgotten.
Today dad battles cancer, probably from his duties of long ago. After
losing 80 pounds it becomes difficult to lay brick and the government denies his disability. But he is of good spirit with two wheels in the wind, enjoying the freedom so deserved. He, like his brethren, will never give up until our father in heaven declares his mission done. One day he will join his brothers and fathers before him, all of whom have paid for the freedom we enjoy.
Freedom that should never be taken for granted.
It is with great joy that we honor our veterans. They have given so much as compared to today where freedom costs less. Thanks to our veterans we only have to get politically involved which is a very small price to pay.
Citizens not willing to maintain our hard fought freedoms show disrespect to the veterans. Get involved, for today we have a domestic enemy. Today we have an enemy who would give away our freedom and legislators willing to take it. These people claim to be Americans while preaching socialism. They dishonor every veteran from the Revolution to present.
Now is the time to act while our actions are cheap, for when our freedom is abolished the price will increase. Freedom is purchased with blood while being sold at the stroke of a pen. |
